Measure...measure...measure!

In Year 1 we are learning about all different types of measurement.
Larks today were learning about length. We used non standard units to measure different things in our classroom. The non standard units we used were lego dots, blocks, counters and popsicle sticks.
Here is a picture of a person we drew around, we are measuring the arms, legs, fingers, head, ponytail, feet and neck in blocks.

We also had car races on the tiles in the hallways around school, the hallways were perfect because we could use the tiles to count how far our cars had gone and the cars went really fast on the tiles. We were having so much fun with the cars that we forgot to take photos!

Tell us in the comments below how you have used non standard measure before.

Can you walk the story?

We have started this term by reading the story The Three Little Camels. We have read it and joined in with the fun, exciting and repeating lines. Our favorite line is "I'll huff and I'll puff and I'll blow your house in."

We have made story maps of the road the camels walked along to build their houses. We walked along our story map and told the story to our friends. We looked at the pictures on our map to remember what came next in the story.

We are excited to write our own versions of this story next week, Kingston said he is going to have a titanium house in his story. What would you build your house from in the story? Leave us a comment and let us know.
